LABOUR AMENDMENT LOST
: (PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received March 4, 10 p.m.) LONDON, March 4, During the debate on unemployment^ Mr Ramsay Mac Donald strongly objected to Mr Burns's contemptuous 'dismissal of the farm colonies for women proposal. He said that if the Government did not believe in the Unemployed Workmen Act it ought to repeal it. Mr Lloyd-George said that the grants were only for tiding the people over temporary difficulties. Th& mere provision of unnecessary work would be demoralising to labourers. The amendment was rejected by 159 votes to 70,
