WANGANUI AUTUMN MEETING
[PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, March 4. ■The Wanganui J. C. Autumn Meeting opened to-day in beautiful weather. There "is a very largo attendance. Results: — Stewards' Handicap: Tan San 1, Tiptoa 2, Arclight. 3. Scratched: Crucinella. The latter w'eiged out and did her preliminary, but was very sore and was taken back 'to the ■paddock.' The stewards decided that the backers of Crucinella on the machine should have their money returned. From a splendid start Arclight led for threequarters of a mile, where Tan San ran to the front, and ;won easily by a length from Tiptoe, who just beat Arclight for second place. - Time, lmin 44sec. Petfe Hack: Courier 1, Miss Mischief 2, Mulga Bill 3. Scratched: Aroha, Overtime, Shannon Lass. From"a good start Te Kouhurangi ]cd !l from Flying Wind until the bend into "the straight, where_ th« field closed up. Courier put in a great rjih from' the rear, and, taking the lead^ stalled off a determined challenge by Flying Wind, winning by a head, third'horse-a length and a-half away. ■-.'"'-■ Westerner© Hurdles: Maidi'l, Commander 2, Tonderghi^ 3. All started. Exmoor led for a mile, when Maidi went to the front and stayed 'there, winning by two lengths easily. Time, 4min lsec. Hack Hurdles. —Whimper 1, Chase '.Mab 2, Tauria. 3. AH started. Tauria led for a niile1, when Chase Mab took lup the running. Whimper ran to the front at the last hurdle, and won by a •couple of lengths. Time, 3min 20sec.
