THE COMING ELECTION.

TO THE EDITOR,

Sir,—The passing of the Second Ballot Bill has undoubtedly exposed to the electors of the Dominion what can fairly be termed the political dumb dogs of the last ParliamentMembers that have not a soul to call their own. Now, Sir, this is the time, and the only time the electors have of teaching these Members or candidates that it is time this sacrifice of every vestige of thought and opinion should not be sold, as it were, for the purpose of being ticketed with the tag of the Prime Minister, 'because that is the whole secret of passing of the Second Ballot Bill, and so long as the people submit to this 'and return members with the Government tag, so will the country suffer and have to submit to every, fancy and whim of the Prime Minister. I Have heard already many electors in the Wairau say that on no account would, they vote for any candidate that would try to get in on the back of the Prime Minister. Then, again ; I have, heard men say that they would vote for a Chinaman so long as he was a supporter of the late Prime Minister. It is men of this class that have been the means of, putting these political dumb dd^s into our Parliament that have made siicli a fearful exhibition that every elector >is ashanled to find, almost the whole Parliament voting against their expressed opinion, and we have only the Council to thank for saving the position io a still greater blundering piece of legislation. —I am, etc.,

ELECTOR
