CAULFIELD RACES

MARANUI WINS THE CUP

[press association.] (Received Oct. 17v 6.10 p.m.V " CAULFIELD, Oct. 17. Luck was with the . Caulfield. Club for the last day of the meeting., Heavy rain fell all night with a south wind, but cleared before midday. A large crowd attended, the ladies wearing their spring costumes. The. stands were crowded. The inter-State visitors exceeded the usual number. Sir T. Gibson-Carmichael's was the ' only vice-regal party, though Lord Dudley's staff attended. The course, and lawns were in good order. Trouble arose over- the identification of Maranui, but it was over before the Cup, for which all started. Hurdles.—Red Fly 1, Bj-elogue 2, Cpraki 8. Won by three lengths. Time, 4min 9sec. , . Nursery Handicap.—Saltire 1, Lady Dudley 2, Beebevfu 3. Won by half a neck, two lengths between second and third. Time, 56secs.

The last past the judge's box were lolaire, Conge, True Sept, Lady Wilde, Mother Goose and Enchanted States. Pink 'Un and lolaire led out of the straight, and at the far turn lolaire was a good three lengths from Destinist, Post Town. Maranui, Enchanted States • and Conge. lolaire led into the straight from Post Town and Maranui. The latter came fast at the distance, overhauled lolaire, and won by threequarters of a length. Time, 2min 35fsee.

Steeplocha.se.—Boisclale (11.13) 1, Destilie (8.9) 2, Lady Justice (9.1) 3. Other starters: Nogel, Seymour, Snob and Rearguard. Won by a length. Time, 4mm 51sec. Windsor Handicap.—Tiercel (7.13) 1, Monodist (7.7) 2, Cithara' (7.2) 3. Other, starters: Akim Foo, Sea King, Topedi, Little Mary, Salvia, Pretty Peg, Off-chance, Surety, Sinderby and. Gunpowder. Akim Foo, Sea King <and Monodist made the running. Tiercel led into the straight fast, and won by two and a half lengths, half a', length between second and third. Time, lmin s|see.

Moora Handicap.—Fiery Star (8.13) 11,I1, Nushka (8.9) 2, Delenda (8.9) 3. Other starters:' Pistol, Last Mistake', 'Sequent, Athens, Thistlebrook, Mollient, Walmsley, Tom-Tom, Birrebyne, Lady Molly, Perilous, Mill Song, Loyal Scot, Dunnolly, Grey Dawn, Royal Favor. Nushka made most of the running. Won by two lengths, next horse three lengths away.' Time, lmin 4|sec.
