ROWDYISM IN A TRAIN.
SALUTARY PUNISHMENT
In tho Magistrate's Court this afternoon, before Mr T. Scott-Smith, S.M., Thos. Huband, John Lemons, Alexander Robinson and W. Kennedy were charged with behaving in a violent and offensive manner to the annoyance of others in a railway carriage in the line between Blenheim and Seddon. ' Each oi: the accused pleaded guilty. Constable Williams, of Seddon, stated that they were in the Bl&n----heim-Seddon train on Saturday night, and they caused considerable annoyance to the others in the carriage. They were the worse for drink, and were fighijttig and quarelling, all except Lemont. When the train got to Dashwqod Kennedy had to be put out on Account/of. the way he behaved. The guard who was in charge of tho train gave corroborative evidence. The other passengers were complaining, and people would not get into the carriage 'where they were. Constable Williams said that nothing had been known against the men previous to this. His Worship said it was an offence that could not be overlooked. Accused were each fined £2, in default 14 days' imprisonment. The fines were paid. ..
