PICTON ROWING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING

On Thursday night the annual general meeting of members of the Picton Rowing Club was held in the Foresters' Ekil, about thirty, members and intending members being present. , •, . Mr W. W. Chambers was voted to the cliair. The minutes of 'last annual meeting were read and confirmed. ANNUAL REPORT.

The annual report, as follows, was road' and adopted:— The Committee have pleasure m submitting the following report for tho year ending August 31st, 1908:'— Taking the work from the beginning of the season,, the-'Club has had a most satisfactory year. In regard to regattas,'the Club was-very-succes-ful, indeed.' At the' Maryborough Reg'afcta. the Club's crews competed in seven races, securing six firsts and one third place. The Club also entered for sis: events at the Wellington Regatta, when they rowed four seconds, one third _ and one unplaced; and at the Championship Regatta, at Napier, the crews rowed into third place in the Champion Fours, second in the Napier Fours, and won the Champion Pairs. Thus ? out of sixteen races, the Club secured seven firsts, five seconds, three thirds and one unplaced, and the Committee think it is a record any Club in the Dominion might be proud of. lihe Club commenced the year with a credit balance of £6 8s lOd in the bank, but anart from this there was a debt of £42 8s owing by the Club. This amount the Club was able to pay off after its success at the Marlborough Regatta. The total receipts for this year were £146 12s lQd, and the expenditure £119.12s 10d. thus leaving a credit balance of £26 19s lid.

The Club held its annual social during the year, and this proved a great success. A particular feature of the social was the presentation of the Red Coats to the winners of. the Champion Pairs, and also the medals and trophies won by members in the various Club races. , With regard to.the plant the Committee is of opinion :that it is in a very good condition. It was, however, found necessary »to, procure a new four-oar racing boat, as the old one, having done service for ten years, was absolutely .unfit to start another season with. Therefore, an order was placed with. Messrs Greenland and Son,-.-of Melbourne, for a new boat, which is to be delivered here by the last week in October, and that is_a question the incoming committee will have to deal v/ith. During the year the Club has "beenunfortunate in losing the services of its President, Mr T. J. Storey, whose assistance it can ill afford to lose.

The Committee; caliicct draw its .report to a .close.-/without mentioning -the services rendered to the- Club in. carrying out the arrangements of the assembly dances, which have- proved such a great Success, both for the benefit of the public and the Club, as ihe balance-sheet will show.

: In. conclusion the Committee trust that members will show their practical interest in the Club by giying^the incoming officers and Committee all the assistance they possibly can. There ! is a great chance of increasing the membsrshiu this, year if every present member will use his best endeavours to bring about this desirable end. The Committee- is .also thankful' to all donors of trophies, and to the ladies and gentlemen who have helped them in so many ways during the past year. "Wishing the Club every success during -the year 1908-9.— "For the Committee, TRANK MADSEN, Hon. Secretary. v A CREDIT A BT,F BALANCESHEET. The balance-sheet, which showed the satisfactory credit balance of £26 19s lid, was read and adopted. To, this was added the sum <df £1 16s, the proceeds of a recent assemblydance, thus really making the credit balance £28 15s lid. Mr Chambers, in moving the adoption, . heartily congratulated the Club, upon the very satisfactory financial position it jwas in.
