The Council resumed at 7.30 p.m. The Hon. Messrs Rigg, Loughnan. Carncross, Mac Donald and Luke would support the Bill, but were opposed to the "aae" clauses. , The Hj>n. Mr JENKTNSON intend- * The VHonaS^?r BEEHAN defended the "gag" clause. / The Hon. Mr JONES generally supP°The ATTORNEY-GENERAL, in reply, defended the "gag" clause, which Be likened to a jury sent back to consider their verdict. He added that it was no abuse of the cardinal principles of our liberty to impose silence on the press during the jury's (the electors ) deliberations. The second reading was carried on the voices, and the Bill set down for committal on Tuesday. The Council adjourned at IO.dO p.m.
