AN ANGLO-SAXON NAVY.

TO BE STATIONED IN THE

PACIFIC

SUGGESTION BY MR BENT.

[press association.] (Received Sept. 12, 10.15 a.m.) * MELBOURNE, Sept. 12. Mr Bent, who has been indisposed, states that when he is; able to see Mr Deakin he intends to ask him why England, Canada, Newl Zealand and < Australia should not contribute to have a Navy, including battleships, in the Pacific, and why the United States .should-not contribute also, making it v a 3«nt concern. America has interests in the Pacific which will be increased when tJie Panama Canal is completed, and the presence, of an Anglo-Saxon Navy m the Pacific would steady a number of other nations. The countries might borrow , money to construct such a Navy. Australia's share would be about ten millions. When Mr Deakin was seen in connection with Mr Bent's scheme he asked to be excused from savino- anything about it. * •** y
