The Bank of England return for the week ended 'Wednesday, September 9, is as follows:—Gold;com, £36,585,000 : reserve, £27,508,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 53.68; notes in circulation,, £28,096,000; public deposits, £5,700,000; other deposits, £4:5, 514,000; Government securities, £15,532,000; other ' securities, £26,----432,000.

The Bank rate of discount is 2£ per cent. ,• the market rate for best three months' bills, is 1 9-16; Paris, If to 2£; Berlin, 3; short loans, f. Consols, £86. New South Wales 4 per cents., £108; Queensland 4 per cents. £106, 3J per cents. £99 10s, 3 per cents. £87 15s; South Australian 3| per cents. £99 ss, 3 per cents £87 10s; Tasmanian 3| per cents. £99, 3 per cents. £88; other stocks are unchanged. Wheat: The damp weather has hardened the markets, especially for new < English and readily available foreign parcels. There is little inquiry for cargoes, which are firmly held. Australian afloat 38s 3d; prompt delivery 38s 9d; new crop, January-February shipment, 375; there is more inquiry for spot at 40s to 41s. Flour is quiet. Australian in London 24s 9d to 25s 3d. in Glasgow 26s 9d. The American visible supply of wheat is 29,211,000 bushels. Butter is steady. Danish 118s to 120s; Australian, none offering; New Zealand 116s to 118s.

Copper, spot £60 18s 9d per ton, three months £61 13s 9d: tin, spot £130 ss. three months £T3l 7s 6d; ■lead, £13 ss; spelter, £19 ss; pigiron, 52s 6d. Sugar: German 9s 6d, first marks 11s lid.

Bradford tons are firm, and prices are unchanged. At the sheepskin sales 7800 bundles were offered, and the bulk sold. There was an average attendance, including some Americans, and good competition, everything selling at Id to Jd above July rates. At the pearl-shell sales prices ad r vaneed 10s to 15s.
