ROWDYISM IN A TRAIN.
SALUTARY PUNISHMENT
In the Magistrate's Court thi3 afternoon, before Mr T. ScottrSmith, S.M., Thos. Huband, John Lemont,Alexander Robinson and W. Kennedy were charged with behaving pa violent and offensive manner to the- annoyance of others in a railway carriage in the line between Blenheim and Seddon. Each of the accused pleaded guilty. Constable Williams, of Seddoa, stated that they were in the Blen-heim-Seddon train ons Saturday night, and they caiised considerable annoyance to the others in the carriage. They were the worse for drink, and were fighting and quarelling, all except Lemont. When the train got to I) ash wood Kennedy had to be put out on account of the way lie behaved. The guard who was in charge of the train gave corroborativo evidence. The other passengers were complaining, and people would not get into the carriage where they were. Constable Williams said that nothing had been known against the men previous to this. His Worship said it was an offence that could not be overlooked.
Accused were each fined £2,' in default 14 days' imprisonment. The fines were paid.
