•' THE HOLIDAY QUESTION. The question of celebrating Dc-r minion Day, Saturday 26th inst., is at present engaging the attention of i a number; of towns in the Dominion, j A telegram from the Prime, Minister j was recently published in these: columns setting forth the intention of ! the Government on the subject, and giving the programme in Wellington' for that day so far as the schools are I concerned. It is understood, however, { that the Wellington shopkeepers do ; not intend to clbse, and it is exceed- j ingly probable that the greater num- j ber of. the provincial towns will follow j Wellington's lead in the matter. A.• representative of The Express called "i on a number of the Blenheim retailers | this morning, and asked their opinion ! on the matter, and it would appear from the replies received that the busi- ' ness people of Blenheim will by- a very k great majority decide to keep open on■< the Satux-day. A meeting of the Retailers' Association will be held early next week, ! when the matter will be finally decid-! cd. The manager of Messrs R. J Allan's said that while he thought that Dominion Day should be kept up, > still there were too many holidays at' present, and the idea of closing on the Saturday did not commend itself. They might have Dominion Day a sort of movable, festival, and celebrate it j on the Monday following the date, or } something of that sort. ' j
