Someone has been writing in the Wellington papers giving an exaggerated account of the behaviour of one or two hockey girls, whose exuberance of spirits were displayed in such a manner as to be displeasing to the writer, evidently a disciple of Mrs. Grundy. The girls have found plenty o* champions, however, who have largely discounted the statements, and one paper admits that upon inquiry it was found that a great deal too much had been made out of a trifling incident. Feeling has run rather high over the matter, and the foolish step of withholding advertisements has been taken by some concerned in the attempt to punish the papers for permitting freedom of comment. The Times says:—"One morning paper has been barred for saying that the ladies were sick at sea, and the other for printing a statement that some of the girls did not behave themselves. Both papers are still running."
