MR JOHN BURNS CENSURED

The Trades Union Congress at Nottingham censured Mr John Burns, I President of the Local Government Board, and Messrs Maddison and Vivian, M.P.s, for opposing the Right to Work Bill.

Several delegates denounced the Salvationist methods. They alleged that under-paying and sweating in the joinery department of the rescue work was competing injuriously with private firms, and weakening the position of trade unionism. The resolution was not pressed, as negotiations with General Booth are proceeding.

A Socialistic resolution that the Congress amalgamate with the Labor Party and the General Federation of Trades Unions was overwhelmingly negatived. It wasi afterwards resolved that no members of the management committee of the General Federation or executive committee of the Labor Party be eligible for the Parliamentary Committee of the Trades" Union/Congress.
