A special meeting of the Awatere Racing Club will be held at the Town Hall, Seddon, on Tuesday evening next. The particular business is to appoint trustees to arrange a lease for certain land proposed to be acquired for use. ;as a racecourse. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr T. Scott-Smith, S.M., Samuel Ledsham, for being an idle and disorderly person and having insufficient. lawful and visible means of support, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.

The unique entertainers concluded their season at the Town Hall last night. The show deserved a better audience. The .management were unfortunate in iheir bioscope machine going wrong, but the vaudeville part of tho entertainment was good enough without the pictures.

Mr Maughan Bariiett, who is to play at the organ recital in St. Andrew's Church: this evening, arrived in Blenheim, last evening. It is anticipated' there will be a crowded house, as most of the music-loving public will avail themselves of the opportunity of "hearing a first-class artist play first-class music.

A special meeting of the Marlborough Rugby Union was held last night to determine whether W. C. Church, who has been selected as one of the five-eighths in next Saturday's team against Buller, was eligible to play. After going into the matter exhaustively the Union decided that Church was eligible.

I A letter has been received at this ' office from the Otago Boys' High School enclosing a copy of the rules of the secondary schools of New Zealand shooting competition. The Council of Defence this year have offered two medals for competition, one to the highest scorer in each Island. The meteorological report for to-day shows that a 9 a.m. the lines south of Kaikoura on the, east coast and south of Farewell Spit,on the west were interrupted, and no reports' were obtainable from them. Rain was falling at Wellington, .Blenheim, .Cape Campbell, Nelson and Farewell Spit, and the sea at Cape Campbell and Farewell Spit was rough. In the North Island the water had moderated somewhat, and Russell was the only place recording rain. The temperature varied between 62 at Gisborne and 50 at Taupo and Blenheim. Gales were blowing at Castlepoint, Wellington, Cape Campbell and Farewell Spit.

A meeting of the Picton Cemetery Board was held last evening after the Borough Council meeting, the same gentlemen being present. Mr Simmonds submitted a report on the state of the trees in the cemetery. Some of the unsightly ones had been cut down, and several trees and shrubs calculated to be suitable for cemetery embellishment were planted. The caretaker seemed to be under the impression that he had no power to manage the place and keep it in order. Mr Simmonds moved that a standing committee be set up to take sole charge of the cemetery, to consist of Messrs Simmonds, McCormick and Riddell. She was afterwards taken out for a trial spin down the harbour, and all concerned W9re delighted with her sea-going qualities, whilst she proved herself to be areal1 speedy little craft.
