GAS MATTERS.

■ . -r — » ■ -.-. ■, : The following is a. copy" of a letter written by the -Gas Manager to the Borough Council, which was read on Friday night at the Council meeting. ■"I-beg to report that there.are several meter readings added to my round this month. It has taken up a lot of my time, instead of going on with the works. It seems before long I shall have all the meter reading put ■on to me. I have also to report that some people have to come several times to \pay their gas accounts, as there is no one in the office to receive them. I consider that one man can very easily 'take all meter readings and make up all the gas accounts in !six days. This wonld leave a man ! three weeks to do all other work at i the office. After the meter readings ' are taken, the other work is very ■ small. The stokers take all the cash and. give receipts for coke and tar, which I do, not think is right. The clerk should take all the cash at the office and give tickets to be handed to the stoker who would give the bearer the required goods." F. TAYLOR. This letter will be dealt with at the meeting of the Gas Committee tomorrow night.
