SAVING THE PENNIES.

[from our correspondent.]

CHRISTCHURCH, May 9. The Hon. R. MeNab, discussing the Government's money-box scheme, said that the system had been in operation in some parts of the world, and had proved very successful. The general idea was to issue locked money-boxes through the Post Office Savings Bank. These money-boxes would be placed in the homes, and at intervals an official would call, empty the money-boxes, and credit the occupier of the house with the amount contained. The scheme would be tried on a small scale and its operations watched before any proposal was put forward for its fre-"'-il adoption in the centresof the Dominion.
