FIRE AT MATAURA.
'ANOTHER SERIOUS OUTBREAK. [press association.] GORE, April 15. By a fire at Mataura this morning, three business places in Bridge Street. Trere' burnt, opposite those destroyed last week. The fire started in uhe back of F. Thorn's bootmaker's shop, -which had been occupied as a dwelling but was at the time unoccupied. It spread to T.. F. Quilter's fruit and confectionery shop. These places were destroyed, but Quilter's cordial factory at the rear was saved. B. Downes's blacksmith's and implement shop was next burnt. This contained a considerable amount of machinery, owned by J. Lowden, senr., and leased by' Downes. The fire is supposed to have arisen from a defective chimney. Following are the insurances: — Lowden, senr., machinery anu plant, £150 in one Royal, building £200 in the Royal; loss above insurance £300; Downes's stock £100 in the United, loss above £60; Quilter, £400 in the South British on the stock, and £200 in the Royal on the factory. The latter was saved, loss above £70; Thorn, no insurance, loss £100; P. and J. McGibbon v building £150 in the National, loss above JJISO.
