' ■ i On the motion of Mr Cunningham seconded by Mr Rutherford, the resignation was accepted. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector reported that very little work had been-done in the Lower Awatere district during the past month owing to the fact that the roads were too hard and dry to make much progress.' The work on the new Dumgree road was progressing in a satisfactory manner. The bridge over Kenwick Creek would be completed in about a fortnight., The proposed road to Upton Downs station, as it had been laid off, would allow a grade of 1 in 15, but would-be rather costly to make owing to the rough nature of the siding,-near the top flat. A grade of 1 in 12 could be obtained at a much less cost, and would probably answer all purposes for which the road would be required. To make this deviation it would take about two acres of land from the Weld's Hill property. The present grade of the road was 1m 7. If the boundary lines were fenced it would cut the access to Messrs Bursill and Blick's property complete.lv off. The contractors for the metalling of roads at Flaxbourne were making fair progress. The road at Tar Barrel Hill had jbeeh trimmed ! up, and two men had been sent to I clean out the water channels in the -Blind. River district, ' The report recommended that a stretch of road near the White Slip be gravelled before the winter, and that the balance or the loan money be allocated for the Kiclimond Brook road and be expended m gravelling. In regard to the proposed Lion's Back road that was to be taken through Mr O. McGrath's property junder the Public Works Act, the Inspector had his authority to make this offer to the Board: That providing the Board wire fenced the roaa on both sides with an approved fence and gave him £25 as compensation, he was willing to give the necessary land required for^ the road It was resolved that vMr McGrath's offer as giveri to the Inspector be accepted, . provided that he (Mr Me-1 uratn) put it in writing. me Inspector was authorised to fc 11^ ™* We question of the road running through Messrs Bursill and Blick'l property was held over till next meetdefaulting ratepayers.
