PICTON'S MAYOR.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Thursday.
As arranged last evening, Councillors invited the Mayor to meet them at the Council Chambers at 1 o'clock to-day.' Councillor Riddell,' who was in tlje chair, poiiited out the importance of many schemes in hand for the improvement of Picton y and the loss the Borough would sustain if Dr. Redman could not see his way clear to withdraw his resignation. The increased water supply and drainage were mentioned as two works in which the Mayor was particularly interested, and Councillor Riddell wound up with a strong appeal to the Mayor to re-consider his decision and withdraw his resignation.
After several other Councillors had spoken in the same strain,
t Dr. Redman replied. He said he found his time so fully occupied with increasing professional work, that of late he had not devoted all the time he should like to Council work, and feeling he was not keeping quite in touch with the works in progress, thought it right to resign, but he would, in deference to the wish of the Councillors, retain the Mayoral seat until the end of April. Councillor Riddell thanked the Mayor for acceding to their request, and Councillor Maitland, our youngest Councillor, expressed the pleasure it would be for him to sit at the same table as Dr. Redman.
