The Mayor of Feilding (Mr W. J. B. Trewin) returned home on Saturday, after haying spent an enjoyable holiday in the 3Vla.rlbprough and Nel-. son districts. A girl named Elly Aldridge had the misfortune to break an arm at Peach Bay, yesterday. The broken limb was successfully set by Dr Redman, at Picton, and' the patient returned home in good spirits. Dr- J. M, Bell, Director of the New Zealand Geological Survey, returned to Wellington on Wednesday after six months' absence in America, Great Britain and Europe. Mr W. R. Tuck, of Wanganui, whois the backer of Webb, the champion sculler, was thrown from his bicycle on the bank of the river on Sunday and rendered unconscious. He had not recovered consciousness when the Chronicle went to press on Monday morning. Mr W. H. Hawkins, ex-M.H.R. for Pahiatua, informed a Hawera Star reporter last Friday that he had definitely decided to contest the Pahiatua seat at the next general election. It will be recollected Mr Hawkins defeated Mr T. L. Buick at the by-elec-tion caused by the death of Mr O Meara. "~*n. The Rev B. H. Ward, vicar of Picton, has resigned from the charge of the parish on account of failing health. Prior to taking the Marlborough appointment Mr Ward was acting-vicar of Petone during the absence m England of the Rev. J. v. Russell. At a meeting of the Vestry of Holy TrinSity Church, Picton, the resignajtion of the Rev. Mr Ward was received. The Rev. Mr Ward, of Wanganui, who is now in Picton, will i officiate until an appointment is ; made.
