{From Our Own Correspondent.) Monday.

In the Pkton S.M. Court this morning T. G. Muir proceeded against T. Rouse, porter, to recover £7 7s 3d, value of a portmanteau and contents, which had been lost. Defendant, for whom Mr Goulter appeared, was ordered to: pay the full amount and 8s costs. Execution was stayed for ten days to enable the defendant to search for the lost luggage. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt a little before 7 p.m. this evening, and it is reported that the sea in the straits rose very high at the time. .

A most successful concert, organised by the matron, Miss Robinson, was held in the women's ward at the Hospital this evening. Many visitors assisted to make the entertainment enjoyable. The programme was as follows: —Miss L. E. Chambers, piano selection; Miss Power, songs, "Island of Dreams " and " Killarney " ; Miss S. Williams, piano selections (2); Mrs Anderson, songs, "Waiting," "The Nightingale's Trill," and "Robin Adair"; Mss Ward, song, "The Ould Plaid Shawl" • Mrs Nicol, songs, "Veteran's Song" and " The Valley of Kentucky"; orchestra, Messrs Bush (2), Cheek, Miss Bush, pianiste Miss Chambers; sons:, Miss Dawkins. Miss L. E. Chambers and Mrs Anderson were accompanists: Dr. Redman in a neat speech thanked all performers, and then gave the welcome cry " Supper."
