THE SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
WEBB v. TRESIDDER
It is very evident that our visitor, Tresidder, is keen on getting into form for the much-talked-of match on the Wanganui River on the 20th of next month. He has particularly pleased many onlookers by his finished style of sculling. The unassuming demeanour of the Wallsend man commends itself to all local rowing enthusiasts, and although he says but little as to his prospects of wresting the championship from Webb, one can easily discern that determination is one of his principal characteristics, backed up by a big frame and a splendid physique. In talking to one of our representatives, Tresidder said he thoroughly understood how great jthe task was before him, and therefore his training would perforce be ion the strictest lines to effect the object for which he is matched. Webb, in his cool, calm and deliberate manner, has just as little to say as his rival, and although recently not in the best of health, is coming right back to form. He is one of the easiest men to train, doing everything asked; but his reticence on sculling matters is puzzling to his interviewers. During the week both contestants will settle down to solid hard graft, and no doubt their work on the river will be vieAved with considerable, interest.—Chronicle.
