PICTON.

(Our Own Correspondent.) Monday. The Union Steamsliip Company's Wanaka was in port on Saturday, and loaded a large amount of produce for Auckland. • At the Mount Pleasant golf links on Saturday the, second round•in the qualifying competition for the men's championship was played off. The best cards were Messrs Riddell 82, Vickers 94, and Madsen 95. / The work of extending the railway station platform is proceeding well, the platform being almost finished and ready for its first coating of asphalt.. This, extra length of sixty feet should prove most o useful during the holiday season;. Mr C. Peek's new residence in Dublin Street is now' almost out of the builders' hands. It is a most comfortable and well-finished house, and a credit to the builders, Messrs Pugh Bros. All our builders are still very busy, and likely to be so for many months.. During last .week one firm received orders for ihrce more residences. A number of the new houses in course of erection are very substantial and handsome buildings, which will add considerably to the prosperous ap~. pearance of the town. In spite of the number of new residences built, there is not an .empty house to be seen, which speaks well for Picton's prospects. Holiday-makers and picnickers from Blenheim and elsewhere this season will find a new and easily reached resort in the Domain. Before the bridge was built, this place was rather difficult of access, but the bridge has placed it within a few minutes walk of the railway station and wharf. It is an ideal spot for picnics, there being plenty of shady bush, safe beaches, and good playgrounds for children. The Borough Council have, since the bridge was built, greatly improved the beach paths, and laid on a supply of water. ; A water tap lias b*een provided on the beach near the boat-sheds, so picnic parties will have no difficulty in finding water for the necessary^billytea. The.holiday season has hardly commenced yet, but already the bridge has justified its erection, as every, fine afternoon and evening and all day long on Sundays numerous visitors to the beautiful Domain use it.
