"HERO OF 132 FIGHTS."

AMAZING CREDULITY. George Morseley, a young man who was charged at Manchester with obtaining money by false pretences, was described by his own solicitor as "a liar of great fertility and picturesqueness." The evidence fully justified the admission. Robert Groves, a bird dealer, of Ancoats, said Moseley told him he could make him a'"star" member of a Scottish club and High Lieutenant of Scotland. Mosley described himself as tho hero of many prize-fights, and appointed Groves his trainer. On these representations Groves handed his business over to Moseley, and also gave him money. The ceremony of election was gone through in secret, and all the supposed rites were observed except that of burning on the body, this being waived in consideration of Groves having a scar on his nose, which could be counted as a burn. Groves provided Mosley with food, which included lamb at Is 3d a pound, and new potatoes at 4d, and also boxed with him daily to keep him in training. Emily Groves, prosecutor's sister. said she became engaged to Moseley, who told her he had won 132 fights, and was matched to fight Gunner Moir. "I really do like brave men," she said, "and thought Moseley must be very brave to win so many fights." He* told her he would receive £7600 in connection with his forthcoming fight, and £3000 would go to her brother. He also declared that he was engaged in writing a ploy called "A Woman's Sin," _ and said they would get married with the proceeds. She replied that she would see the money first. Moseley's solicitor said it was all done to secure Miss Groves's favour. The magistrate sent the man to gaol for three months.
