YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.

A conference of Young Men's Christian Associations and of all men wh^ are interested in the modern movements of the churches on behalf of young men, will be held in Wellington on October 23rd, 24th and 25th. The conference will be under the auspices of the Wellington Young Men's Christian Association, and will be conducted by the National Secretaries of the movement for Australia and New Zealand. Under the direction of a National Committee, composed of representative business men of each State of Australasia, there have been remarkable advance steps during the past two years. The Committee is represented in the national work by two National Secretaries, whose time is given entirely to the work of advice and assistance wherever it is needed. These secretaries are Mr Lyman L. Pierce, B.Sc, late General Secretary of the great Association at Washington, the American capital, and Mr William Gillanders, 8.A., one of the ablest graduates of the University of New Zealand. Both of these gentlemen will attend the Wellington Conference. Mr Pierce and Mr Gillanders have recently conducted building canvasses in several of the States of Australasia, which have resulted in securing amounts ranging from £5000 in 30 days to £15,000 in 14 days, which has just been accomplished in Dunedin and Christchurch. Before they come to Wellington, they will undertake a canvass for £15,000 in Auckland, and in Wellington £7000 to complete the building fund there. It is desired to make the Wellington Conforence representative of both the towns and villages of this Dominion. The National Committee lias plans which it hopes will make the Association movement a useful, agency in church work, not only in cities, but in country districts. It therefore- calls on the various organisations of the churches in this, vicinity to send representatives to the Conference.
