EFFECT OF A FALL INTO THE FIRE. [PRE3S ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE, Oct. 9. Maria Morris, aged 63, early yesterday morning was seized with a fit when near the fireplace in her residence at Te Karaka, and fell into the fire. There she lay until aaylight. A boy, aged eight, was the only other occupant of the house, and did not observe anything wrong till he was getting up in the morning, when, seeing smoke coming from the room, he went out, caught a horse and rode a mile away for assistance. A relative on arrival 'found the place full of smoke, and the woman lying terribly burned. He pulled her out and extinguished the fire. Medical assistance was obtained, and the sufferer lingered till 10.30 p.m., when she died. She was conscious almost to the end, and gave a rational account of what happened. She stated that she felt no pain at all.
