SPEECH BY MR SMEWS. CHINESE ANITINDIANS ON THE RAND. [press association.] (Received Oct. 8, 10.50 p-m.) PRETORIA, Oct. 8. Mr Smuts, addressing Ms constituents here, said that'the experience of tlie miners' strike proved that if Chinese were retained the wTiites must eventually clear out. Tvvo mining magnates who desired to co-oper-ate with the Government had come to the conclusion that the importation of Chinese was a'mistake.
Mr Smuts warned Indians that the Government would strictly enforce ; the Asiatic law. It was determined to make the Transvaal a white man's /.country. It had put its foot down,, ; and would keep it there.
