Mr Hastings Braddell, who has been appointed editor _of the Nelson Colonist in succession to Mr T. H. Bannehr, arrived in Nelson on Saturday, and has assumed his duties.

The death, at Nelson, on -the 21st instant; is recorded of the wife of Mr E. W. Pasley (formerly Collector of Customs at Blenheim) at the age of 68 years. Mrs Pasley had a host of friends here, who will learn of her decease with sincere regret.

At the fortnightly meeting of the Nelson City Council, hold on Friday evening, reference to the departure of Mr Bannehr from Nelson was made by Councillor Snodgrass, who said that it was the last occasion on which Mr Bannehr would report the proceedings for the Colonist. For a groat many years Mr Bannelir had reported the Council for his paper, and it was right that the Council should take notice ot his departure. He moved, "That this Council regrets the departure of Mr Bannehr, who ha'; so long been identified with the welfare of this city and particularly as press reporter of the City Council's proceedings; and this Council wishes Mr and Mrs Bannohr every happiness, success, and long life in their now home : and that a copy of this resolution under the seal of "the Council be sent to Mr Bannehr." The motion was soronded by Councillor Hamr>son. s-ooktMi to by Councilor Bisley, "and thon put and carried unanimously. Mr Bannehr, in acknowleding ths motion, thanked the Council for the consideration it had j shown him, and stated that for over a I third of a century he had reported the | City Council and the old Board of ■ Works. He could not sever his con- j nection with those with whom he had been intimately associated for so long without pain, and he felt the severance very much, but the kindness of the City Council was a matter of excessive gratification to him. He particularly thanked the Council for in eluding Mrs Bannehr in the resolution.—Colonist.
