Mr Farnell, Commissioner of Lord Howe Island, has returned from a visit to the island. He declares that there is not a happier or more contented community in existence. During Ms eight years' Commissionership there has not been a single case of crime. The crops are looking well, and the prospects generally encouraging. An epidemic .of whooping-cough last rnontli caused the death of three children.
