THE RELIGIOUS WORLD.

At the Wesleyan Conference in Wesley Chapel, City Road, London, held last July, a large and influential deputation of the Church of England, consisting of 19 members and including the Bishop of Stepney, the Archdeacons of Middlesex and Westminster, Canons H. S. Holland, E. A. Stuart, Pennefather, McCarmick, and Benham, Prebendaries Webb-Peploe, Perry, and Storrs, and the Rev. H. R. Wakefield, was introduced to the president by the secretary of the Conference. This is the second time a Bishop of the Established Church has visited the Wesleyan Conference, the other occasion being two years ago at Bristol.

: The Bishop of Stepney read the following letter of greeting from the Bishop of London:— "Dear Brothers,, —I cannot allow you to assemble in conference in London without sending you a word of welcome and of godspeed. Although you and we are divided upon important questions, we are at one in holding the great truths of the Incarnation, the Atonement, the Resurrection, and Ascension of our Lord, and the great mission of the Holy Ghost, and in attaching value to an ordered and reverent service. You have, moreover, set an example to us all by your missionary zeal, and by the evidence your people have given of a fervent love of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I pyay that some day the causes which divide us may be removed, and in God's good time we may be united as members of the one historic "communion to which your great leader and teacher, like ourselves,' belonged. Meanwhile, dear brothers, rest assured that we honour you for your work and shall pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon your deliberations in your conference. —Yours very sincerely, A. F. London." , The Bishop of Stepney addressed the Conference on behalf of the deputation, and the Rev. J. Scott Lidgett replied. After the singing of the hymn, "Christ, of all my hope the ground,"

the Bishop of Stepney pronounced the Benediction, and the deputation withdrew.
