On Wednesday evening the Pelorus Sports Committee met. Present. Messrs James Dalton (in the chair)!, Johnston, Mosen, Simpson, Diamanti, and Hughes. A discussion on altering the day took place. Mr Dalton proposed that some one be appointed to interview the Regatta Committee. Mr Mosen seconded. The resolution was carried. Mr Diamanti proposed, | and Mr bimpson seconded, that Mr ] Dalton and Mr Hughes be delegates to wait on the president and secretary of the Regatta Committee. —Carried. Proposed by Mr Mosen and seconded by Mr Johnston that the secretary write to the Okaramio Sports Committee to ascertain if they were going to hold sports on New Year's Day.—Carried. It was also resolved, on the mo- j tion of Mr Diamanti, seconded by Mr Simpson, that the Committee hold a | South Island double-handed championship saw contest, with two feet sized blocks. The Secretary was instructed to wire to Eltham re the South Island championship. A public meeting will be called for the 25th, at. 7.30 p.m., for the purpose of putting the balance-sheet before the public. Mr McGuire is supporting the club j enthusiastically. He has given the Sports Committee £5 5s and the Victoria Hall free for all engagements as a benefit to the sports, also a trophy for a special race. The other day a teacher asked one of her scholars' if he had learnt his spellings. The urchin said: "No, we come to school to learn." The boy said his mother told him to say this.
