The number of sheep in the colony on 30th April of this year was 20,----983,772, as against 20,108,471 on the same date last year. The sheep rate k paid for 1907 was £20,983, as compared with £20,108 for 1906. The number of owners on 30th April last was 19,977, an increase of 712 over 1906. Of the total number in the colony on 30th April last, 5,147,340 were in the Canterbury-Kaikoura district; 5,119,901 in the Napier-Gis-borne district; 4,948,407 in the Wel-lington-West Coast district; 1,122,440 in the Marlborough - Nelson district; 3,859,974 in Otago; and 785,710 in th& Auckland district.
