HORSE PARADE.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION.

The annual horse parade, under the auspices of the Marlborough Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was held at noon to-day in Priddle's Paddock, Percy Street. There was a large attendance of farmers and others interested, and the parade itself, particularly in respect to draughts, was one of the best yet seen in Marlborough. All the horses were in good condition, and their grooms had vied with each other in tasteful decorations in ribbon-work. Amongst the new blood in the draught section, Mr J. Dollar's re-cently-imported young Clydesdale stallion " Lord Dundas " was the subject of considerable comment, his general action and strength of build, combined with the fashionable lightness of bone, being much admired. The light bay, " Silver- Gift," was also freely commented upon; while others were not unnoticed. The following is v complete list of the draughts, with owners' names and of sires and dams:—J. Ledingham's " Major Robin," Gipsy—King's Pride; J. Young's "Silver Gift," Prince Curacchen—Lady Darnley; C. Satherley's "Royal Prince," Royal Fame—Daisy; J. Dollar's "Lord Dundas," ' Up-to-Time — Baron's Pride; G. Boyce's "Bonnie Doon," Highland Pride—Plant; C. Hart's "Rae's Fancy"; J. Young's "Captain Alexander," St. AlexanderQueen of CranburnejJ. Sutherland s " Wlieatstone," sire. Sir Colin; A. McColl's "Tarn O'Shanter." The thoroughbreds were a less numerous lot, yet they included some new blood in " The Artist," the old racer, and " Sensation." The list of those shown is as follows:—D. Jones's "Sensation," Hotchkiss—Ouida; J. McLaughlin's "The Artist," Somnus —Lady Artist; W. Smith's "Ben Farley," Ben Trovator—Physche; A. Huddleston's "Gay Spark," Clanranald—Catherine Wheel. One coaching stallion, that of Mnher Bros.' "Imperial Bell Boy" (Prince Imperial—Black Angel) was also shown, besides two ponies, W. Miller's " General - Nut" and Hpppleton's "Santa Glaus." The stewards were Messrs J. Stoiv ey ; D Bishell, and A. Gifford.
