HAVELOCK.

+ (Own Correspondent.) It has been decided by the Takorika hockey team to retire from taking any part in the Dillon Cup matches. A meeting was held last night at the Town Board office to consider the advisability of starting a Debating and Literary Society, or perhaps it might be more correctly described as a resuscitation of one formerly held here. It was unanimously decided that such a society be formed, and a number of those present gave in their rames as members. The subscription for the term was settled at 2s 6d. Mr W. H. Smith was elected President, and Messrs Stace, Powell, Crispin and Taylor Vice-Presidents, with MiRichards as Secretary and Treasurer. A deputation was appointed to wait upon the Town Board to endeavour to obtain the use of the library in the new Town Hall buildings upon as favourable terms as possible, in view of the fact that the society should be viewed in the light of affording an opportunity for educational training. The first meeting was fixed for 19th June; in the meantime another meeting would be held to make more complete arrangements. ' June 7th.
