(Received June 8, 9.53 a.m.) MELBOURNE, June 8. Mr Barnett Bauer, a well-known merchant, was discovered in Ids .office at Modern Chambers, Collins Street, last evening witli Ms skull fracturecl "in several places, and died on removal to the hospital. Though there were no signs of a struggle, Bauer was evidently brutally murdered.

The affair is a complete mystery. A friend who called on Bauer ten minutes before the boy discovered him found the door of his office locked.

No one in the building heard any sounds.
