Mr Churchill (Under-Secretary for the Colonies) made no definite reply.. Captain Craig asked whether the Government would guarantee a loan todevelop British interests in the New Bebrides, provided the islanders consented to the deletion of the clauses of the Anglo-French Convention relating to th& employment of children from sunrise to sunset with only one hour's rest? ' Mr Asquith (Chancellor of the Exchequer) replied in the negative.
