MARLBOROUGH A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

FETING OF THE COMMITTEE

A special meeting of the Committee of tils Mailborough A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon. There were present: Messrs A. McCallum (President), R. McArtney, D. Chaytor, H. D. Vavasour, C. Goulter, P. Meehan, S. M. Neville, N. Lankow, » Clifford, 11. Allan, A. Mackay, J. Dick, D. Bishell, R. J. Bell, and J. S. Storey. : Messrs A. Mcßae, J. Rollo Sharp, ; Brunnette, and Anthony Maher (Kai- ; tuna) were elected members of the Association.

AGRICULTURAL CONFERENCE

Correspondence was received from the Secretary to the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Conference Executive asking for subjects desired to be discussed at the conference.

On the -motion of the President, it was resolved to recommend " That A. and P. Association properties be exempted from taxation." On the suggestion of Mr Vavasour, the question of the taxation of stallions was remitted.

A suggestion from the same member respecting the taxation of heavy haulage traffic was defeated. On the'motion of ..Mr Bell, the desirability of the abolition of the sheep tax was also suggested for discussion.

ADDING TO THE LAND GRANT.

The President reported the result of .the interview with the Minister for Lands in reference to granting further 14 acres at Grovetown. The Hon. Mr McNab had received the deputation courteously. The deputation first asked for a grant of the land, and said that if they >were unable to obtain this* they would like to purchase the land. The Minister had replied there would foe no difficulty about a lease, but the deputation had impressed upon him the wish of the Committee for the freehold, and as a free grant if possible. The Minister had promised to lay the matter before Cabinet.

Mr McArtney confirmed the President's report. The Minister had admitted the request was only reasonable, and had promised to favourably advise the Cabinet.

A hearty .vote of thanks to the deputation was" carried.. v/

THE SHOW GROUNDS

The President reported having visited the show grounds, and he pointed out that the time was opportune to plough the grounds and.get them ready for re-grassing. He had received an offer of a team at 24s per day. On the motion of Mr Bishell, the President was authorised to accept the offer and get the work done at once. Mr Vavasour offered his own grader to the Association, ff.ee-of cost. Mr Neville, on behalf of the Awatere Road Board, offered the services of a man to work the machine.

A moi^on-that both offers be accepted with thanks was withdrawn in favour of one that the matter be left in the hands of the -Grounds .Committee.

The President was authorised to obtain particulars, during a trip to Christchurch, of the cost of turnstiles, with a view to their instalment j&jb the ■grounds before next show.

FINANCE.

The Treasurer (Mr Cbaytor) reas the ■financial statement at date. The debit balance due at the Bank amounted -to £635 Is 9d; cash in hand would reduce this amount to £585 11s 9d. Against this there were outstanding subscriptions totalling £240, and special prizes, etc., £141 12s. Assuming all these were got in 2 the debit balance would be about £200.

The matter of writing off bad debts was left to the President and Secretary. .
