The latter continued until be.tween 8 and 9 this morning. It is doubtful at what hour the cricket match will be resumed to-day, as the ground is very wet, and rain threatens.

There are indications that the drought is about to break, if it has not already/broken. In the North Island rain was reported by 'Cape Marie van Diemen, Hokianga Heads, Cambridge, East Cape, TauKanga, Gisborne, and Castlepomt, and rat Taupo heavy rain fell during tli© night. The barometer had risen generally; the highest and lowest readings respectively were 29.95 at Clyde and Tnvercargill, and 29.57 at Greymouth. In Blenheim the glass stood 29:82. The thermometer ranged from 74 at Auckland and Tiritiri to 58 at Cape Campbell. The local reading was 67. The sea was rough at a number of the coastal stations including Hokianga Heads, £ast Cape, Napier, Castlepoint, Cape Campbell, and Nuggets; it was considerable at.Kaikoura, smooth at Farewell Spit, and moderate on the West Coast bars.
