WAIRAU REGATTA.

Last evening a meeting of those interested in holding a regatta on the Wairau River at Easter was held in the Club Hotel. There was a good number present,: and the meeting was unanimous in its desire to hold the usual regatta, and felt quite sanguine of success. ;-;

Some discussion took place as.to whether Easter Monday or the Saturday preceding would'be the. more suitable day, as there might be a possibility of clashing with other attractions on the Monday. It was finally resolved to fix upon Monday, April Ist. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Commodores: The Hon. C. H. Mills and Mr J. Duncan, the Mayors of Picton and Blenheim, Messrs McCallum and J. H. Redwood; President j Mr W. Murray; VicePresidents, Messrs G. Bott, H. Mills, and A. Rore; Judges, Messrs W. Murray and R. McArtney; Starter, Mr F. W. Dodson; Umpire, Mr C. Fredericks'; Time-keeper, Mr F. Redwood; Treasurer, <Mr W. Draper; Secretary, Mr H. G. Mclntosh; Committee, Messrs J. McKinley, S. Tapp, F. W. Griffiths; Canvassers, Messrs Tapp, McKinley, Girling, and Draper, for Blenheim, and Messrs Worger and Mills for Spring Creek. Mr Worger promised the committee the same liberal support that had been given by his predecessor at the Ferry Hotel. The Secretary was instructed to notify all rowing clubs in the Colony [ that the regatta would be held, and inI form them that the programme would,! be forwarded to the clubs at an early date. * The programme was left in the hands of the General Committee, and it was decided that the Committee meet on the 18th January for the purpose of dealing with this and other matters. The opinion was expressed that better results would follow from canvassing this year than previously, and in consequence of this the. tiommittee would be able to increase the prizes. It is expected that competitors will be attracted from all parts of New Zealand, and every endeavour will be made to make the regatta successful in every respect.
