PICTON.

(Own Correspondent.) Oil-launch races are still going on in .Picton. The various owners not being anxious to accept defeat, are determined to try, and try again, and it seems likely that as one boat will win one day, and lose the next, the competition will go on till next year Mrs H. M. Haslett, formerly of Picton, who has been studying the art of maternity nursing, has obtained her certificate lately in Christchurch. She is now spending a holiday with her mends in Picton.

The Presbyterian ladies—earnest workers, and splendid managerscleared £40 at the refreshment stall on New Year's Day. The town is particularly quiet after the bustle and stir of the holidays, still there are a fair number of visitors yet remaining here. Apong the Picton visitors to the Christchurch Exhibition this week are Mrs Beauchamp of Anikiwa, and Miss ■Li. Greensill, Waikawa.
