CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. ■ At the. Riccarton Licensing Committee meeting to-day; the: chairman 'stated that the Committee, had no authority to order an hotel to be re-built. AH the/power it possessed was to- refuse a license if a hou§e were unsatisfactory. The owners of three hotels were given twelve months in which to build houses i that: /would be .. satisfactory. Meanwhile licenses will be issued for the presenfc premises. If at the erid of the time given no satisfactory house has replaced the present building^, the ncenses'will be withheld.
