HAVELOCK NEWS.

(Our Own Correspondent.) At Canvastown, on Wednesday last, Miss Mary Ann Elizabeth Pope, daughter of Mr Henry Pope, wedded Mr David Middleton Picard, son of Mr W. A. Picard, the espousal being solemnised by the Vicar of Havelock at the residence of the bride's parents. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of pale blue crepoliue, with wreath and veil, and carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern, a present from Mr and Mrs G. Harris, qf Nelson. She was attended by two bridesmaids, the Misses Harriet and Ivy Pope, her sisters, dressed alike in flowered muslin with Empire sashes of blue silk, and each carrying a bouquet of Marguerite daisiesand mountain fern.. Mr John Pope, brother of the bride, supported the bridegroom. At the conclusion of the ceremony the guests were entertained by the bride's parents, the future health and prosperity of the wedcled couple being proposed by the Vicar, the bridesmaids by Mr George Wells, and the parents of the bride and bridegroom by Mr Glastonbury. The presents received were well selected and valuable, the bridegroom's present to the bride being a handsome writing desk. Mr and Mrs Picard take up their future residence at Kenepuru, and left for their new home by "motor yacht " during the afternoon, the bride's going away dress being of brown cloth trimmed with brown satin and hat to match. At a meeting of the proposed Havelock Defence Rifle Club on Tuesday evening, it was decided that the»name of Mr David Grant be submitted to the Defence Department fpr appointment as Captain qf the Club. It has been decided that the annual ball in connection with the Havelock Cottage Hospital be held on Friday, the loth inst. Every effort to repeat previous success is being made by an energetic committee qf ladies,* whichhas appointed Messrs P. Anderson and E. Scott to act as Ms.C, and is arranging for music by Mr Vannini, of Blenheim. The popularity of this annual fixtm'e, and the personnel of its control, leaves ample room for safety in predicting that things will be "just right" here on the evening mentioned. At the last meeting of the ladies' committee of the Havelock Cottage Hospital, Mrs Rae was elected a member in the place of Mrs Erskine, lately deceased.
