MIIS WILLIAM ADAMS, SENR

Another ol; the early pioneers has passed away, in the person of Mrs Adams, widow of the late Mr William Adams^ of Langley Dale, Marlboroiigh, the deceased lady breathing her last at Christchurch on the 15th inst., at the great age of 91. The la to Mrs Adams was born in Engisi ml in Waterloo year—lßls—and cam"* out to the colony with her husband in lbT>o. She resided in this district for many years, lirst at Redwood and afterwards at Langley Dale.

Mr Adams occupied the position of Commissioner of Crown Lands, and was the first elected Superintendent of the province of Marlborough. When he died he was buried at Langley Dale, and the remains of his widow are being brought from Christchurch to be laid beside those of her husband in the family cemetery. The interment will take place on Sunday at noon.

Mrs Adams, who had resided for the past few years at Christchurch, leaves a family of four sons—Messrs Acton Adams, of Christchurch; John Langley Adams, of Stoke, Nelson; William Adams, of Langley Dale, Marlborough; and Percy Adams, the wellknown Nelson barrister and solicitor.

The insurance on Mr J. Nolan's house, destroyed at Gi'ovetown yesterday, was altogether £200, in the Commercial Union.

The only civil case in the Magistiate's Court this morning was W. A. Sowman v. S. Bnliff, an application for an order on a judgment sui.ir.Lons. Defendant, who said he was a married man, and only earning 35s per week, was ordered to pay 10s per month, or in default undergo seven days' imprisonment.

At a conference between the Gas and Finance Committees of the Blenheim Borough Council the other evening it was decided that the Borough Engineer's salary, £250, should be provided out of the gas and general accounts, the former contributing £50 and the house, and the latter £200.
