Futurity Stakes—Gladsome (Godby) 1, Duko of Melton (Smith) 2, Pendant (Hood) 3. Eleven starters. Betting—Five to two against Machine Gun, seven to two Lachlan, seven to one Pompous and Duke of Melton, eight to one Pendant, ten to one Gladsome.

Machine Gun was the first to show out from Pompous. At the far turn Machine Gun dropped back to third place. Duke of Melton was first into the straight. At the distance Gladsome came fast on the outside and joined the leader. A fine race; won by taree-quarters of a length, a head separating second and third; Machine Gun sixth. Time, lmin 282 see.
