To-day's report as to the state of the local rivers (11.30 a.m.) is: Wairau ford of Opawa, nnfordable; Wairau ford of Wairau, unfordable. A telegraph office will be open at the Christchurch show grounds on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, the 7th, Bth, and 10th inst. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Telegrams for the trotting racecourse are to be addressed to the Christchurch Show Grounds. Mr J. Scott had the misfortune to lose the services of a valued trap-mare thio morning, through the breaking of one of its pastern-joints. The mishap occurred in a provokingly simple manner, the animal, which was attached to the baker's cart, being turned round somewhat sharply, with the result indicated. Mr Scott intends to graze the mare for stud purposes if the treatment of the broken member pioves successful.
