THE EDWARDS MURDER TRIAL.

VERDICT OF MANSLAUGHTER.

STRONG CRITICISM BY THE

JUDGE.

Press Association. Electric Telegraph Copyright.

Received July 28, 9.50 p.m. Melbourne, July 28. Edwards was found guilty of the manslaughter of Skinner, and sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment.

Mr Justice Hood said that the facts of the case would have amply justified the jury in finding a verdict of wilful and deliberate murder, but the ingenuity and eloquence of the defence had led to the verdict of manslaughter. It was a brntai and horrible oience, and there was nothing in the crime itself or the circumstances afterwards to warrant dealing leniently with the prisoner.
