WAIRAU ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday, there being present : Messrs R. F. .Goulter (Chairman), Bell, Adams, Richardson, and Tesohemaker.

The valuation roll was amended by fane substitution of the name of James T. A. Lovell for Mrs Gudgeon as occupier of No. 229 on the roll. The request of Mr O. de V. Teschemaker to have his son's name placed on the roll as his power of attorney for 208, Avondale River, was granted, Ifc waa resolved to inform the Chief Engineer for Roads (1) that the Board objects to the road being made as proposed by the Department at the request of the North Bank settlers, as it will cost a considerable sum to maintain, and ends in a swamp; (2) that Mr Adams, through whose land the road would pass, is willing to give a more direct line of road on higher and firmer land; (3) the Board therefore begs that this line now offered be formed.

The Inspector was instructed to expend £5 in repairing the Saxton's Pass Road.

Resolved that Mr Munro be requested to remove the fence he had written about back one chain from the river, as arranged previously, and on acoount of which the Board had expended £10. Resolved that Mr Boyle's contract for the maintenance of the Blenheim, Leefield, Avondale, and Walhopai ?oads be renewed on the same terms.

The 0 hair man was authorised to spend a farther sum of £5 in the parchase of birds' eggs, etc. The Inspector was instructed to place four joists, 10 x 10 x 5, on the bridge over the 'Mill Stream, Dog Point Road, the joists to be tarred and | covered with planking.

The road contractor was instructed to make the earth covering of the culverts on the Leefleld-Avondale road less abrnpt by adding material on either side.

Resolved that the Secretary report at next meeting on the position of all Government grants, and that the Chairman and Secretary interview the officer-in-oharge of the roads in the meantime.

lb was decided to hold a special meeting on Saturday 11th for the purpose of discussing the Government grants and the heavy traffic by-laws. Resolved that a survey be made of the Kaituna-Onamalutu Road.

Resolved to ask the Government Road Inspector to forward survey of Onamalatu Saddle-Kaituna Road, to enable the Board to make specifications and expend the £50. Resolved to expend £5 on the road from Rock Ferry to the bridge over the Ooamalntu on Maher's Flat.

Resolved that the large stones and scrub be cleaned from the road from Waihopai to the Wairau Valley Post Office.

Accounts amounting to £142 Os 5d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
