THE MARLBOROUGH EXHIBITION.

A WELLINGTON NOTICE.

The WellingtonPosthas the following;: —Now that the contemplated Wellington Industrial Exhibition has been " hune up " for a period of at least twelve months, it might be considered worth the while of those who have concerned themselves with its arrangement to devote attention to Blenheim, which has arranged to hold an exhibi tion in September next. There are reasons —and good ones—for turning attention in the direction indicated. Marlborough is a good customer of ours, and the great bulk of her export trade is done through this port, particularity in wool, meat, cereals, flax, timber aud fish. Although to-day the distance between Picton and Wellington is represented by only a few hours' steam, the time is surely coming when the dream of the present Minister for Customs and men of commerce must of necessity be accomplished, and a fast ferry service be established between the two nearest coastal points of the two islands, which will reduce the length of steaming time by at least one half. The proposed exhibition is to open on the 17th September, and though it will last for ten days only, it-is contemplated that within that time a dis> play can be made in every way creditable to the province and to the Colony, for it is to be interprovincial in its character, as well as representative of the products and industries of the Marlborough district itself. The scheme has been adequately financed by the people of the district, and a building is in course of ereefcion which will provide for 1400 ft of floor space, which will be added to in the way of annexes as occasion requires. The situation of the exhibition buildings is in the very centre of the town, in the grounds known as Seymour Square. The schedule—a copy of which is be fore us—provides for a commercial division of a comprehensive character, an educational and literary division, scientific and arts division, domestic work and cookery division, home industries division, and various " side " competitions of interest to all classes of the community. Already the pro Moters have had applications for three thousand feet of the available space, and the entries do not close nntil the Ist of August. This promises well for the general success of the scheme, but in order to make it a conspicuous and noteworthy display the managers—the Marlborough Industrial Associationinvite the co operation of manufacturers and the pnblic generally, with the aid of which it is hoped to make the enterprise one of the biggest yet carried through outside the four chief centres of the Colony.
