Stubborn Resistance by
Russians.
Many Casualties and Prisoners.
Sydney, May 4.
Following is a further report from General Kuroki, cabled to the Japanese Consul:—" On the afternoon of the Ist the enemy offered stubborn resistance, tho pursuit adding 300 to oar casualties. They fought bravely at the last, but finally two companies of artillery, after losing most of their men and horses, raised the white flag and surrendered. The officers taken prisoners asserted. * that DivisionGeneral Kashitarinsky and the commanders of the 11th and 12th Infantry Regiments and of the Artillery Battalion and sharpshooters were kilted. The killed and wounded also included many other superior officers. Large numbers of refugees subsequently re turned and surrendered. The total prisoners numbered 30 officers and 300 sub officers and men,"
