THE SLY GROG SELLING CASES.

Ashburton, April 22. The Magistrate delivered judgment in the sly grog selling cases this morning as follows :-J. W. Malcolmson, Commission agent, was fined £25 ; Alex McKenzie, bookmaker, £30; Alf Bray, soda water manufacturer, £45;. Thomas Alexander, billiard saloon keeper, £30; RobertfShields, boardinghouse keeper, £30; D. T. Todd, reporter, £80; John Kobb, of Winslow, £30. Jndgment was reserved in Elizabeth Hitohing's case. The oases against Dineeo, Lagan, Nealon, Mil* &ozn, and Hylard were dismissed prin cipally on the ground that there was no corroborative evidence to that supplied by informers.
In Dineen's case the Magistrate recommended the police to bring under the notice of the railway department the extraordinary amount of liquor consumed at a wedding on defendant's premises. The liquor in the convicted cases was ordered to be confiscated, and in dismissed cases returned.
Costs to cover expenses were ordered to be made in the convicted cases.
Later. Correction.—The magistrate refused to make an order for costs.
